Cocurricular activities are an important part of campus life, and Luther hosts more than 120 student activities, including:

Athletics

Men may participate in 10 intercollegiate sports: baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, swimming, tennis, track and field, and wrestling.

Women compete in nine intercollegiate sports: basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track and field, and volleyball.

Club sports include rugby and ultimate frisbee for men and women; 70 percent of the student body is involved in an extensive intramural and recreational services program.

Cheerleading also contributes to the athletic experience at Luther.

Communication

Radio station KWLC-AM, Chips student newspaper, Pioneer yearbook, The Gadfly independent journal, and Oneota Review literary magazine

Departmental Organizations

Departmental clubs encourage socialization among students with similar interests and present programs and guest speakers on special topics.

Honor Societies

Students may be elected to societies recognizing excellence in the liberal arts, anthropology, communication, social work, economics, history, music, mathematics, psychology, Spanish, physics, English, nursing, biology, and French.

Music

A wide variety of organizations are available for students interested in music participation, including seven choirs, eight bands, and several student-led informal ensembles.

Recreational Activities

The intramural program provides opportunities to participate in team sports such as softball, basketball, broom hockey, volleyball, ultimate frisbee, and flag football, cross country ski club, as well as individual sports that include badminton, pickleball, racquetball, table tennis, and tennis.

Recreational organizations and club activities include skiing, rock climbing, camping, hiking, biking, rugby, ultimate frisbee, and aerobic exercise (water and land).

Social Organizations

Upperclass students may choose to be members of one of Luther's four active local social organizations to grow socially and be of service to the larger Luther community.

Three women's societies and one men's brotherhood comprise the four total organizations. Luther also has an active chapter of Alpha Phi Omega, a national coed service fraternity.

Student Activities Council (SAC)

SAC offers a variety of cultural, educational, social, and recreational activities for all students. An executive board, consisting of a president, vice-president, historian, and 9 co-chaired committees, maintain the sense of purpose and excellence in the programs offered by the council.

Theatre/Dance

A typical theatre/dance season (open to all students regardless of major) includes three to four faculty-directed shows, a variety of student-initiated studio projects, events produced for special occasions, and residencies by visiting artists.

Opportunities at Luther also include unique leadership and service opportunities, including college ministries. These cultural, educational, social and recreational activities are an integral part of the living-learning community at Luther.
