How to Apply
Let's get started!
OUR PRIORITY APPLICATION DATE IS NOVEMBER 1.
The admission process is about connection. We can’t wait to learn your story—your achievements, your plans, your goals.
From your first question to hitting “submit,” we’re here for every step.
Your admission counselor will guide you, connect you with campus, and keep the process low-stress. At Luther, applying isn’t paperwork—it’s the start of what comes next.
Your Choice: Norse App or Common App
You can use either the Luther Norse Application or the Common Application.
REQUIRED
Send your high school transcript. After you apply, you can:
- Upload it through the applicant portal.
- Have your school counseling office send it to us.
- Send it yourself to admissions@luther.edu
We’ll evaluate your whole transcript and use your cumulative GPA to determine your academic merit scholarship.
TELL US MORE ABOUT YOURSELF
We want to learn about you!
Two ways to make your application shine:
- Submit a personal statement or writing sample.
- Submit an educator reference from a teacher or counselor.
The better we know you, the more connections we can help you make – with our faculty, scholarship opportunities, and other Luther resources.
Your Choice: Common App or Luther App
You can use either the Common Application or the Luther Application. Read additional information for transfer students.
For citizens of countries other than the U.S. and for U.S. citizens living abroad
If you are not a United States citizen or permanent resident, use the Common Application. This includes U.S. citizens living abroad.

What About Standardized Tests?
Standardized test scores are not required. Learn more about our test-optional policy.
- If you plan to submit test scores, check if they are included on your transcript. If not, they can be sent by your high school guidance counselor, or you can self-report by sending an unofficial copy or documentation of your composite ACT or SAT scores with all corresponding subscores and test dates.
You are eligible for academic merit-based scholarships regardless of whether or not you choose to submit a test score.
What Is the Deadline for Applying?
Luther admits students on a rolling weekly basis beginning in early October, and will do so each week until the class is full. Acceptance notifications will be sent within 10–14 days after receiving your completed application.
What Happens Next?
Once we’ve received your application (including your essay, transcript, optional test scores and educator’s reference), your file is complete. You can expect to hear from us within 7–10 days.
If you are accepted and decide to attend Luther, we require a $300 non-refundable enrollment deposit to hold your spot in the following year’s class. Your deposit is due by May 1.
