Wellness Program
The Nena Amundson Lifetime Wellness Program at Luther College promotes a wellness-supporting environment on campus. It offers individual and group health education. The program also provides services, resources, and initiatives to students and employees.
An estate gift by the late Nena Amundson ’56 makes these wellness opportunities possible. Amundson taught physical education and coached women’s athletics, primarily at California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks.
Nena Amundson Lifetime Wellness Program Goals
- Increase opportunities and environments for wellness promoting behaviors
- Expand knowledge of wellness promoting behaviors
- Improve attitudes and perceptions of wellness and related intentions to engage in wellness promoting behaviors
- Boost engagement in wellness promoting behaviors
CORE Wellness Healthy Campus Initiative
The Nena Amundson Lifetime Wellness program collaborates with a variety of offices on campus to promote a Culture of Respect and Empowerment (CORE). The goal is to promote CORE for each person’s health and well-being.
The initiative focuses on four areas:
- Mental health
- Physical health
- Healthy relationships
- Substance Abuse Prevention
Nena Amundson Distinguished Professorship
Part of the Nena Amundson estate gift to Luther supports a competitive distinguished professorship. Special consideration is given to proposals that focus on health and wellness issues for women, as they were central to Amundson’s career.
