Counseling Services

In-Person Counseling through WinnMed: WinnMed also provides in-person integrated behavioral health (IBH) to Luther students. These in-person appointments are scheduled and provided by the Luther Clinic, located on the first floor of Larsen Hall. Similar to the health service offerings, student insurance will be utilized for IBH. To schedule behavioral health appointments, call 563-387-5400.

Tele-health through Uwill:  Luther College also provides telehealth services for 24/7 student mental health. For the academic year 2025–26, Luther College is changing its provider to Uwill. Students have access to 8 free sessions per academic year through Uwill. In addition to scheduling a therapy session, you can take advantage of the platform for wellness education, and direct crisis connection. If a student is experiencing a mental health crisis, help is available 24/7/365. Call 833.646.1526. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 911.

To get registered with Uwilll

  • Once you are registered, you can schedule with a therapist. Choose a therapist based on your preferences including availability, issue, gender, language, ethnicity.

These two support systems outlined above combine to offer continuity of care for Luther students. Uwill provides a broad range of times and availability virtually. WinnMed’s service is in-person and is designed for individuals requiring fewer sessions.  Both Uwill and WinnMed are private, secure and confidential.

Health Insurance Expectations and Information

Luther College expects that all enrolled students have health insurance coverage. This expectation is in place for the protection of students.

It is the responsibility of students/families to review their insurance plans before seeking care at the Luther Clinic. Doing so determines if services will be in or out of network for their plan.

If a student’s insurance plan denies the claim for services provided through the Luther Clinic as out of network, WinnMed will work with students on a discounted rate. Students/families who have additional questions after consulting with their health insurance provider may call WinnMed at 844-617-6990.

Luther College has partnered with Assured Partners in Decorah to provide support for any domestic students with questions about obtaining health insurance that works well with Winneshiek Medical Center (WinnMed). Assured Partners will help students consider options on the Affordable Care Act Marketplace, with Medicaid, and with private plans. Assured Partners may be reached by phone at 563-382-2981 or by email: Brian.Huinker@assuredpartners.com

Medicaid is a health insurance program based on income. In addition to meeting certain income levels, students need to meet specific eligibility requirements to receive Medicaid coverage. Please see the Iowa Medicaid website for eligibility.

International students are automatically enrolled in a health insurance plan; costs are billed to their student account.  Upon campus arrival, students will receive their insurance card.  The insurance card is needed when receiving health care services or to obtain prescribed medications at a local pharmacy.
