Dorian Summer Music Camps

2021 Dorian Summer Camp Update - 03/23/21
After learning that Luther College would not be hosting any overnight, residential camps this summer, we went through a process of scenario planning around a 2-day commuter camp that involved limited ensemble rehearsals, a reduced number of class offerings, and required COVID testing prior to arrival at camp. After thorough brainstorming and problem-solving, we have determined that a Dorian Summer Camp experience this summer is not something we can offer with full confidence. Many factors went into this decision including the quality of the experience, cost to families, accessibility and equity, safety, and staffing challenges. Furthermore, without the ability to be in community with one another (residence hall activities, Whippy Dip ice cream trips, and recitals, for example) we don’t see it as representative of the “Dorian experience.”
Therefore, it is with great sadness that we announce that we will not be holding a 2021 Dorian Summer Camp event.

There is no question that Dorian Summer Camp will return and that it will rise up stronger than ever. We will again find creative ways to engage with campers and their families this summer, and we hope you’ll eagerly “save the date” for June 2022.

We anticipate opening registration for the 2022 summer camps in December of 2021. Keep practicing this summer. The camp faculty and staff will be eager to hear your musical growth when you return! Best wishes for a hopeful, restful, and rejuvenating summer.

Camp Overview
Each year, hundreds of student musicians attend Luther's week-long Dorian Summer Music Camps and study with Luther professors, perform in large ensembles, participate in workshops and classes, and have fun living and learning together on Luther's beautiful campus. Band camp, orchestra camp, choir camp, and piano camp are all included in one wonderful week that we call Dorian Summer Music Camp. This is not your typical music camp, as students are able to take art classes, dance classes, and theater classes in addition to their musical classes and ensembles. In the evenings, students partake in fun social activities, outings, recitals, and more. An online enrollment date will be posted here at a later time. Reach out to Kayla Scholl with questions.
