Employee Benefits
As employees of an educational institution, faculty and staff at Luther College enjoy a number of technology-related benefits.
Academic Pricing
Many computer hardware manufacturers and retailers offer academic pricing discounts. As employees of an educational institution, Luther College faculty and staff can take advantage of this discount to buy software for their personal computers at low prices. Some discount programs for specific hardware products are detailed below, but you can often find academic pricing deals just by inquiring of retailers or visiting academic-specific web sites such as academicsuperstore.com. Luther has specific arrangements with these vendors:
- Apple — Luther faculty and staff are eligible for academic discounts on Apple hardware. The Luther Apple Store has been set up to provide academic pricing on Apple products to students, faculty, and staff. Discounted hardware includes MacBooks, iMacs, iPads, and iPhones. Visit the store to see all available products. There is often a Back to School special offer in place spring through fall.
- Dell — Luther College is currently enrolled in the Dell University program. Faculty, staff, students and alumni can get good academic pricing on Dell PCs at www.dell.com/en-us/lp/students
Microsoft Office
- Microsoft 365 – Luther faculty, staff, and students can use Microsoft 365 at no cost on their personally-owned computers while at Luther (up to 5 activations). Visit office.com and either use a web-based version of Microsoft 365 or download the core Microsoft 365 apps. Employees need to request download access from the Technology Help Desk. Office is preinstalled on Luther-owned computers, including those in labs and classrooms. For more information, visit our Microsoft Office page for more information.
- Other Suites – Microsoft Office products are available in other packages, including one-time purchase products which aren’t dependent on your employment status. Compare Office products here.
Keeper Password Manager
Employees can sign up for a free Keeper Family License for Personal Use, and should use that account for personal credentials. Plans include 5 seats and can store up to 10gb. After their employment ends, former employees retain access to the personal Keeper account, but it becomes a paid service after 30 days.
- In your vault, from the drop down menu behind your username in the upper right, choose “Account”.
- In the “Subscription” section, enter your personal email address. Don’t put an @luther.edu address here.
- Accept the verification email that was sent to your personal email address.
LinkedIn Learning
LinkedIn Learning is an online course website offering video courses taught by industry experts in software, creative, and business skills. LinkedIn Learning is available to all faculty and staff while at Luther. Sign in here with your Norse Key username and password to access this service.
