ILA MAE “MICKEY” (HJELLE) SCHUMACHER, 81, of Hudson, Wis., died on Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, in Cincinnati, Ohio, next to her daughter, Karen. She was born on May 10, 1931, in Fargo, N.D., the daughter of ALBERT HJELLE (Luther Class of 1924) and Alice Hjelle. She graduated from Spring Grove, (Minn.) High School in 1949. She attended Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, where she met her husband, NOEL SCHUMACHER ‘53. They were married in 1951 and both graduated from Luther in 1953. Ila Mae taught second grade in Caledonia, Minn., from 1953 to 1955, when she and Noel moved to Hudson. There, Ila Mae focused on raising her children before taking jobs in banking and at Hudson Hospital. Ila Mae's parents; her husband, Noel; and son, Timothy, predeceased her. She was the loving mother and mother-in-law of Michael and Joan Schumacher, Karen and Don Rohlfs, and the late Timothy Schumacher. She was the devoted grandmother of Kristen Schumacher, Bryan Schumacher, Ryan Rohlfs, McKenzie Rohlfs, and Madison Rohlfs. She was the dear sister of PAUL HJELLE ‘58, KEITH HJELLE ‘68 (Susan), and RUTH ANN HJELLE ‘73 (Erik Olson), and sister-in-law of Bonna Basler. A graveside service was held at Garnavillo Community Cemetery in Garnavillo, Iowa, on Feb. 15, 2013. Visitation was Feb. 16, with the memorial service following at Bethel Lutheran Church, 920 Third St., Hudson.
