ADAM J. CHRISTOPHERSON, age 38, of Marion, Iowa, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2013. Funeral Services were held Jan. 9, 2013 at Decorah Lutheran Church with Pastor Bryan Robertson officiating. Burial was in Big Canoe Lutheran Cemetery in rural Decorah. Visitation was Jan. 8 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah. Adam John Christopherson was born June 25, 1974 in Decorah, Iowa to John and Linda (Smock) Christopherson. Adam was baptized and confirmed at Decorah Lutheran Church. In his early years, Adam wrestled in weekly pee-wee tournaments, played little league baseball and loved playing neighborhood ball games. Adam began his love for golf by playing with his mom on a daily basis. This lasted until he started beating mom. During his teenage years, Adam enjoyed hunting and fishing with his dad. A special memory was when they each harvested a big buck the same day. While in high school he was a letter winner in cross-country, wrestling and golf. He graduated from Decorah High School in 1992 and then attended Luther College graduating in 1996. He was a member of the Luther College Men’s golf team earning All Conference honors and helped them to a 13th place finish at NCAA National Championships his senior year. Adam was united in marriage to Jennifer Dodge on October 18, 2002 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Independence, Iowa. They were blessed with two sons, Ethan and Fynn. Adam’s greatest love was spending time with his two sons; whether he was teaching them a sport, watching movies, playing games, reading with them or cooking. He always showed affection giving warm hugs and kisses and telling his children how much he loved them and how proud he was of them. He had endless patience and showed great sensitivity and caring when he was with them. He was quick to smile and loved to joke around with his family and friends. Adam also loved music and you could always count on him to be singing along. He would tackle any home repair with gusto from fixing a vent to sewing a Halloween costume. He loved the outdoors and was always up for an adventure. Hawkeye wrestling was something else he enjoyed. Adam began working at First Federal Credit Union in Cedar Rapids and recently returned working there. He also worked in the insurance and investment fields. He was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Marion and also Decorah Lutheran Church. Adam enjoyed spending quality time with his family and friends. Annual winter trips to the Dells, trying to beat his sisters in card games, pushing his boys and nieces/nephews on the tire swing, and just hanging out in Decorah were a few of his favorites. Adam had a great smile and could be friends with anyone making them feel welcomed and a part of a group. He was a positive, intelligent man who had a terrific way with the written word. Adam was a loving, compassionate, and devoted father, husband, son, brother, and uncle. He will be greatly missed and always loved. He was preceded in death by his two grandfathers, Smokey Smock and Lloyd Strinmoen; and by a nephew, Carter John Aiels. He is survived by his wife, Jen Christopherson of Marion; two sons: Ethan and Fynn Christopherson; his parents, John and Linda Christopherson of Decorah; two sisters: CARMEN (CHRISTOPHERSON) JOHNSON ‘94 (DEVIN JOHNSON ‘95) of Decorah and Robyn (Mark) Aiels of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; one nephew and three nieces: Jace and Emma Johnson and Cora and Lucy Aiels; two grandmothers: Charlotte Strinmoen and Lucille Smock of Decorah; his father- and mother-in-law, Johnny and Nancy Dodge of Independence, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Angela Dodge-Bolseth (Ron) of Littleton, Colo; and by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
