Google Meet
Google Meet is part of the broader Norse Apps suite of Google products. It is an alternative to Zoom.
Employees and students can create and join Google Meet meetings directly from their email, calendar, Google chat, or any other place inside the Norse Apps suite of Google products.
Meet is a remote meeting and collaboration tool used for web conferences and online presentations, and available to all employees and students. It is one of the easiest and most cost-effective ways to organize and attend online meetings. General features include:
- Ability to record meetings and save them to Google Drive (faculty and staff)
- Host starts the meeting online and then participants may join via online option or by phone (online option could be video or just audio)
- Screen sharing
- Closed-captioning
- Ability to change presenters on the fly
- Up to 250 participants (faculty and staff); up to 100 participants (students)
- Platform Independence (Windows, Mac, iPad, or Android)
- No time limit
Starting a Google Meet
There are several ways to start a Google Meet:
- From a Gmail window on your computer, choose the “Meet” icon from the left side-bar.
- Visit meet.google.com
- Choose “Add Google Meeting video conferencing” on Google Calendar events that you own
- In any Google Chat, choose the video-camera icon at the top of the chat.
- On a computer where you’re signed in to a different Google product, choose the “Meet” service from the from the “waffle” (3×3 grid of dots) in the upper-right.
- On mobile devices, from the Google Meet app, available from your device’s app store
