Transitioning Google services for Class of 2018 and earlier

As of December 1, 2022, all accounts that did not opt-in to an @alumni.luther.edu account were suspended; for the accounts that did opt-in, we removed non-mail/contacts services and the ability to receive mail at the old @luther.edu address.

Why did this happen?

For many years, Luther was pleased to offer alumni email and associated applications through our institutional Google account. Unfortunately, Google has announced that, effective July 2022, they will no longer be providing colleges and universities with unlimited file storage. Due to this change, the college will need to retain the limited file storage it will be allocated primarily for internal use to conduct the business of the college.

Despite the changes announced by Google, the college offered alumni a year to opt-in to an @alumni.luther.edu email-only account, as a way to honor its original commitment of a Luther email account. Additionally, it is now considered best practice to only use educational email domains for current students or employees.
