Four Luther College alumnae will speak on their professional careers and personal experiences as females in the workforce during a panel at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, in the Center for Faith and Life Recital Hall.
Luther senior Kjerstin Nelson of Apple Valley, Minnesota, spent the past few months in Alicante, Spain, working as a medical intern at El Centro Médico Estación, a private medical clinic.
Opportunity Saint Paul is an Interfaith program in the greater St. Paul, Minnesota, area that connects people with education-focused volunteering. Rebecka Green, a Luther College junior, spent her summer working as a program support and communications intern for the start-up program, which launched Aug. 17.
Luther senior Brandon Whitish of Fennimore, Wisconsin, will present a vocal recital in collaboration with alumnus Mitchell Stevens at 7 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 21, in the Noble Recital Hall of the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music on the Luther campus.
Luther College Alumnus Josh Byrnes is the featured speaker in Decorah Power’s fall Learning Series at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16, in Valders Hall of Science Room 362 on the Luther College campus.
Pulitzer Prize winner and Luther alumna Erin Alberty and award-winning journalist and author Jessica Luther will share their experiences reporting on sexual assault claims at several major universities, including Brigham Young University and Baylor University, respectively. They will discuss what they have discovered during their investigations, and what needs to happen to slow down the trend of sexual abuse on campuses. Their presentation takes place at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18, in the Center for Faith and Life Recital Hall on the Luther campus.
The Luther College Admissions Office will host two separate Preview Day events on Oct. 19 and Oct. 20, 2017 on the Luther campus. This visit provides prospective students a glimpse into Luther’s educational atmosphere. Luther College is hosting a Creative Arts Visit Day for prospective students Friday, Oct. 27. Activities for the day are geared toward prospective students interested in art, dance and theatre by providing an opportunity to explore visual and performing arts at Luther.
Examining a liturgical drama known as the Visitatio sepulchri or “Visit of the sepulcher” that was performed on Easter Sunday in churches and monasteries during the Middle Ages, Melanie Batoff, Luther College assistant professor of music, will deliver a lecture titled “The Past Meets the Present: Strengthening Community through the ‘Visitatio sepulchri’ Liturgical Drama” at 4 pm Sunday, Oct. 22, in the Choir Room of the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music on Luther’s campus.
The bee population has slowly been declining across the globe, causing scholars to panic about the lasting impact the decline will have on native plant communities. Nikhil Thacker, Luther College senior of Iowa City, Iowa, researched and observed bumble bees, known scientifically as Bombus, and how to preserve the areas the bees rely on for their survival.
