Unison Piano Duo present Feb. 17 concert on Luther campus

With 20 fingers and one passion, the Unison Piano Duo comprised of Luther College piano faculty members Du Huang and Xiao Hu will present a concert at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, in Noble Recital Hall, Jenson-Noble Hall of Music, on the Luther campus.

The performance is open to the public with no charge for admission.

The concert opens with two movements from Waltz-Caprices Op. 31 by Edvard Grieg, followed by Mozart’s Duettino Concertante for Two Pianos arranged by Ferruccio Busoni and three movements from Seven Pieces from Mikrokosmos by Béla Bartók. The recital continues with “Le Grand Tango” by Astor Piazzolla, Introduction and Allegro by Maurice Ravel and ends with “Ritual Fire Dance” by Manuel de Falla.

As a duo, Huang and Hu have astounded critics and audiences across the globe. Regarded as “”¦fleet and sparking”¦unusually high level of ensemble playing,” by the New York Concert Review, Huang and Hu have performed on more than 40 university campuses in Europe, Asia and America. Famous concert hall performances include Carnegie Hall in New York City; Orchestra Hall in Chicago, Illinois; Salle Cortot in Paris, France; and Shanghai Music Hall, Shanghai, China. In addition, their live performances have been broadcast by Minnesota Public Radio and Iowa Public Television.

Luther is home to one of the largest collegiate music programs in the nation, with six choirs, three orchestras, three bands, two jazz bands and more than 800 student musicians. Luther students participate in large ensembles, faculty-coached chamber groups, private lessons and master classes. Nearly 275 music majors study music theory, ear training, history, education, composition, jazz, church music and performance.
