Recently returning from their January Term trip to Namibia and South Africa, 21 Luther College students who participated in the Music 245: “Choral Singing in Namibia and South Africa,” course will present a program at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, in the Noble Recital Hall of Jenson-Noble Hall of Music on the Luther campus.

Photography captures more than a moment in time, it creates and adds to a larger narrative of history. “Remembering Martin Luther King Jr.: From hate to hope,” a photography exhibit curated by Luther College students, is a commemoration of the life and tragic death of Martin Luther King, Jr. on the 50th anniversary of his assassination.

Midwesterners think they are all too familiar with ice this time but year, but is there more to ice than just the freezing of water? Luther College Professor Emeritus of Physics Dennis Barnaal will go into depth on the fascinating aspects of ice at 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, in the Mott Room of Dahl Centennial Union as part of the Luther Emeriti Colloquium series.

In recognition of the 50th anniversary of the death of Martin Luther King Jr., Ronald Rochon, provost at the University of Southern Indiana, will give Luther College’s annual Martin Luther King Jr., Day lecture, at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 15, In Valders Hall of Science, Room 206, on the Luther campus.

As technology develops, so too does the use of digital medicine and personalizing care. Luther College alumnus Steve Demuth, chief technology officer and head of the office of IT strategy and architecture at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, will present “Digital Medicine: Why Doctors and Computer Scientists Increasingly Need Each Other,” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, in the Franklin W. Olin Room 102 on the Luther campus.

Featuring a sequential series of photo collages with text created by Luther College alumna Sarah Frydenlund, “Rush In,” is on display through Dec. 15 in Preus Library on the Luther campus. The exhibit is open to the public with no charge for admission.
As a part of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, the Luther College Music Department will present a Reformation Commemoration Concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31, in the Center for Faith and Life Main Hall on the Luther campus. It will feature a new multi-movement choral work with contributions from four Luther alumni and four current Luther students, as well as a newly-commissioned band piece.
