“At Luther College, the relationships you make really matter,” says Kirsten Loynachan ’22. “The professors and staff that I met at Luther have gone out of their way to support me, both during and beyond college.”
At Luther, Kirsten was a regular in the music and business buildings as she pursued her double majors in accounting and music. She cherished her time playing the bassoon in the Symphony Orchestra and Concert Band. She also discovered a passion for working behind the scenes as an audio and lighting technician and as the Symphony Orchestra’s secretary and treasurer for the Symphony Orchestra.
Internship and Self-Assessment
Kirsten’s accounting professors helped her land an accounting internship at RSM, an international accounting firm. And while accounting was a great interest, her accounting and music professors, as well as the Career Center staff, helped her to identify her greatest passion—orchestral management.
Kirsten serves as the assistant personnel manager for the Kansas City Symphony, hiring substitute musicians and coordinating national auditions. Combined, the critical thinking skills of accounting and her deep knowledge of music have made her into a successful orchestra management professional.
“With the help of multiple professors, ensemble directors, and staff, I was able to curate a college experience and career after college that was specific to me,” Kirsten says.
