A transformational approach to studying how images, video, film and text can be used to inform, persuade, and engage.

Why Study Visual Communication at Luther?

Our program is concerned with the intersection of the following:

How Visual Information is used. From prehistoric cave art, to contemporary social  memes, humans have used various intersections of image and text to convey meaning.

How Visual Information is understood. Students learn to  grasp how image influence and persuade and, in so doing,  become informed consumers and producers of visual media.

How Visual Information engages. Students learn to  apply the things we understand about how images communicate and apply this understanding to the production distribution of effective visual communication strategies.

We'd love to meet you in person.
