The Student Academic Support Center (SASC) at Luther College has been renamed the Center for Academic Enrichment (CAE). The CAE will continue the mission of the SASC to help students develop confidence in their abilities and achieve their greatest academic potential. Lisa Scott, Luther College vice president for institutional equity and inclusion and student success, says the name change better reflects this work.
"In essence, 'academic enrichment' speaks to the idea of providing and enriching our students with meaningful and valuable opportunities to support in-classroom learning and to enhance the student experience through a robust co-curricular experience," said Scott.
The CAE provides support to all Luther students, responding to individual learning needs through a variety of services including, but not limited to, academic skill-building workshops, free peer tutoring, and disability services and accommodations. These services are free of charge to all students.
Scott says the new CAE will place a strong emphasis on a student's academic strengths and possibilities as opposed to their weaknesses. She says staff will also be collaborating more with various centers on campus including the Luther College Counseling Service, the Career Center and the Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching.
"The CAE staff have spent the last several months reviewing, revising and strengthening the center's policy, procedure and processes to enhance access, persistence and retention at Luther. Though there is more to do, I am excited to be a part of a team that continues to build a visible and viable infrastructure for student success," said Scott.
