The Luther College Student Activities Council invites the community to laugh and interact with ComedySportz at 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27, in the Center for Faith and Life Main Hall on the Luther campus.
Hailed as a fast-paced comedy show that is fun for all ages, ComedySportz is improvisational comedy played as a "sport" by members of the World Comedy League. The event is open to the public with no charge for admission.
A ComedySportz match features two teams of comedy "actletes" competing for laughs and points, with a referee keeping things moving and calling fouls. An average of 7-12 games are played during a match, drawn from a repertoire of more than 100 improv games.
For example, in "Shakespeare" a team improvises a scene in Shakespearian style, inspired by an audience suggestion. In "Forward/Reverse" the referee sends the scene back and forth at will, hurling the actletes into a frenzy.
Every show is different, with different players and games, with the audience supplying new suggestions. Fans judge the scenes and games and ultimately decide the winners and losers. ComedySportz also asks volunteers from the audience to join in a game or two each match.
The show is sponsored by Student Activities Council Entertainment.
