Noble alumni choir returns to Decorah

The Weston Noble Alumni Choir formed in the summer of 2006 when Myron Heaton, a 1968 Luther graduate and director of the Myron Heaton Chorale of Las Vegas, invited Noble to serve as guest conductor for his chorale’s concert tour of Europe. To augment Heaton’s ensemble, the two conductors invited Luther College Nordic Choir alumni to join the tour.

The Luther singers returned from the tour with a pledge to organize a larger alumni event, which has taken place each summer since 2007, including a return to Europe in 2010 and a California tour in 2012.

Music for the 2013 alumni choir concert includes “Sing Joyfully” by William Byrd; “I Will Lift Up Mine Eyes” by Aldophus Hailstork; “Softly and Tenderly” by William L. Thompson, arranged by René Clausen; “Ave Maria” by Kevin Memley; “Take Not Thy Holy Spirit From Me” by Ralph E. Williams; “Clap Yo’ Hands” by George Gershwin, arranged by Pete King; “Ah, Holy Jesus” by Johann Crüger and set by John Ferguson; “The Nightingale” by Dan Forrest; and Noble’s signature closing piece, “O Lord God” by Paul Tchesnokoff.
