Faculty Artist Series: Luther's Andrew Wannigman to give voice recital Feb. 7

Andrew Wannigman, alumni guest lecturer in music at Luther College will perform voice recital at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7 in the Jenson-Noble, Noble Recital Hall. After graduating from Luther in 2007, Wannigman returned in the Fall of 2011 to teach voice at Luther as a faculty member.

The performance is open to the public with no charge for admission. The program will include Handel's aria "Sibilar gli angui d'alletto," from the opera "Rinaldo," as well as the popular Vaughan Williams "Songs of Travel."

Collaborating on piano is Jessica Paul, professor of music. The duo will be joined by Brent Dodson, visiting professor of music, for the "Rinaldo" piece. Wannigman will also perform works from Wolf and Debussy.

In addition to holding the bachelor's degree from Luther, Wannigman completed his master's degree at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston.      

Most recently, Wannigman has been living in Des Moines and performing with the Opera Iowa troupe as well as an apprentice artist with the Des Moines Metro Opera's summer festival.      

While living in Boston he performed the premiere of Lori Dobbins' "Rage of Achilles," at the prestigious Jordan Hall. Wannigman has also performed with Longwood Opera, Boston Opera Collaborative, Juventas New Music Ensemble and the Plainsong in Boston.
