Co-editor Rachel Faldet to discuss disability essay book project Oct. 29

Oct. 26, 2009

The Spectrum Network will hold a reception and book signing for “From My Perspective: Essays about Disability” Thursday, Oct. 29, 6:30 p.m. in the Decorah Public Library mezzanine. Authors will read selections from their essays. Rachel Faldet, co-editor, will talk about the process of gathering stories for the book. Faldet is assistant professor of English at Luther College.

“From My Perspective” was published in August by The Spectrum Network. Edited by Faldet and Kris Schanilec, the collection includes writings by a variety of individuals who have disabilities and those who support them, including parents and human services professionals. Many of the essays were generated in a writing workshop held by Spectrum in April. The workshop and publication were made possible by funding from the Winneshiek County Community Foundation.

The event celebrates National Disability Employment Awareness Month, as well as Spectrum’s thirty-fifth anniversary. It is open to the public with no charge for admission. For more information or to purchase a copy of the book, call 563-382-8401 or visit
