Luther College Inaugural Symposium Oct. 10

Luther College will host the Inaugural Symposium, "Exploring Faith and Literature," at 11:15 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10, in the Noble Recital Hall, in Jenson-Noble Hall of Music on the Luther campus. The symposium panel will reflect on ways that religious questions, issues, topics and characters are explored in contemporary literature.

Luther to present 'The Buried Life–What do you want to do before you die?'

SAC invites the community to "The Buried Life–What do you want to do before you die?" at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, in Valders Hall of Science Room 206. The Buried Life originated in 2006 when Dave Lingwood, Ben Nemtin, Duncan Penn and Jonnie Penn set out in an old RV to complete their list of "100 Things We Want To Do Before We Die." The group pulled a borrowed 1957 Dodge Coachman RV out of a field; bought a secondhand camera for $100 on eBay, threw a party to raise money for gas and hit the road for two weeks to see how many items they could check off their list.

Luther College Homecoming concert Oct. 12

The Luther College Homecoming Concert, featuring the college's premiere touring ensembles, is 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, in the Center for Faith and Life on the Luther campus. The concert includes performances by the Luther Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Daniel Baldwin; Nordic Choir, conducted by Allen Hightower; and Concert Band, conducted by Joan deAlbuquerque.

Luther College presents 'A Thread in the Dark' by Hella Haasse

Luther College's Visual and Performing Art department presents "A Thread in the Dark" by Hella Haasse. "A Thread in the Dark" is the story of an individual challenging gods, heroes, myths and monsters in pursuit of truth. The performances, held in the Jewel Theatre in the Center for the Arts on the Luther campus, are at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9; 9:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10; and 1:30 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11.

Luther College Nordic Choir to perform Fall Concert Nov. 2

The Luther College Nordic Choir will perform in concert at 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2 in the Center for Faith and Life on the Luther College campus. The concert, open to the public with no charge for admission, is part of a pre-cursor tour for the Nordic Choir's 2015 Midwest Tour. The choir tours annually and has performed around the world, appearing in Norway, England, Germany, Russia, Poland, Hungary, Romania, the Baltic countries, Mexico and the Caribbean.

Luther College President Paula J. Carlson will present Luther's Distinguished Service Award to three alumni Friday, Oct. 10, at the Alumni Dinner and Celebration of Distinguished Service. The Distinguished Service Award, one of the highest honors bestowed by the college, is given in recognition of success and achievements in professional fields, service to society, contributions to community, and loyalty and service to Luther.

Luther College campus to celebrate Eid al Adha

Luther College students and community members of all religious backgrounds will gather to learn about Eid al Adha, the Festival of Sacrifice, at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, in Peace Dining Room in Dahl Centennial Union. A brief program of reflections by students who grew up celebrating the festival will be followed by light refreshments and a time for conversation.

Carla Hanson, Luther College adjunct faculty in music, will perform a Spanish voice recital at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, in the Noble Recital Hall of the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music on the Luther campus. The recital is part of a touring series Hanson performs with her friend and collaborator, Ainhoa Urkijo, former Luther College faculty member.
