Luther College Jazz Ensembles performing in Marty's Oct. 10

College Jazz Band and Jazz Orchestra will perform at 8:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, in Marty's in the Dahl Centennial Union on Luther's campus. The Jazz Band is dedicated to featuring improvisation by student soloists and presenting swinging arrangements that will have audiences heading for the dance floor.

Karen Kanakis, Luther College associate professor of music, will present a voice recital at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, in the Noble Recital Hall of the Jenson-Noble Music Hall on Luther campus. The program features music sung entirely in Italian by various composers including Franz Liszt, Giuseppe Verdi, Paolo Tosti, Gioachino Rossini and Reynaldo Hahn.

The Luther College Book Shop will host book signing sessions Saturday, Oct. 11, as part of Luther's homecoming weekend of events. Luther College will host the Inaugural Symposium, "Exploring Faith and Literature," at 11:15 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10, in the Noble Recital Hall, in Jenson-Noble Hall of Music on the Luther campus. The symposium panel will reflect on ways that religious questions, issues, topics and characters are explored in contemporary literature.

Luther to present 'The Buried Life–What do you want to do before you die?'

SAC invites the community to "The Buried Life–What do you want to do before you die?" at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, in Valders Hall of Science Room 206. The Buried Life originated in 2006 when Dave Lingwood, Ben Nemtin, Duncan Penn and Jonnie Penn set out in an old RV to complete their list of "100 Things We Want To Do Before We Die." The group pulled a borrowed 1957 Dodge Coachman RV out of a field; bought a secondhand camera for $100 on eBay, threw a party to raise money for gas and hit the road for two weeks to see how many items they could check off their list.

Luther College's Visual and Performing Art department presents "A Thread in the Dark" by Hella Haasse. "A Thread in the Dark" is the story of an individual challenging gods, heroes, myths and monsters in pursuit of truth. The performances, held in the Jewel Theatre in the Center for the Arts on the Luther campus, are at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9; 9:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10; and 1:30 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11.

Luther College Nordic Choir to perform Fall Concert Nov. 2

The Luther College Nordic Choir will perform in concert at 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2 in the Center for Faith and Life on the Luther College campus. The concert, open to the public with no charge for admission, is part of a pre-cursor tour for the Nordic Choir's 2015 Midwest Tour. The choir tours annually and has performed around the world, appearing in Norway, England, Germany, Russia, Poland, Hungary, Romania, the Baltic countries, Mexico and the Caribbean.
