Luther January Term

Each January, Luther offers 15-20 off-campus faculty-led courses. These courses are based in Luther's academic departments, which means they always count toward academic requirements for graduation.

Students pay costs associated with travel, such as airfare, housing accommodations, some group meals, and transportation. (Tuition for January Term courses is included in Luther's comprehensive fee.)

The online application will become active on April 1 at 8:00 AM.

Look over the course offerings below. Click on the course to which you want to apply. On the next page, click the Apply Now button. Login with your Luther username and password (NorseKey). Once you have selected a term (J-Term, 2021), you will be on the application page for the program. In addition to completing the application, make sure you also complete the recommendation section. (Reach out to two faculty members (or one faculty member and one staff member) to get permission to enter their name/email into our application system. This will automatically send them an electronic recommendation form.) As part of the application process, you will apply for your 1st choice program and may indicate 2nd and 3rd choices (if you have alternate choices). Make sure you click on SUBMIT in order to complete the process.

For additional information check out the 2021 Off-Campus J-Term Course Brochure. The first round of J-term 2021 applications begins April 1 and closes on April 30, 2020.  Any openings will be filled in the Fall with a second round of applications. Questions? Contact [email protected].

We know that the COVID-19 pandemic and its effects around the world have added a great degree of uncertainty to international travel. One significant effect has been on the airline industry. By April 1 each year, we are typically able to receive quotes from airlines regarding J-Term travel. This year, most airlines have not been able to provide quotes. As a result, cost estimates this year are based on prior year flights. We have made the cost range for each course a bit larger (lowest to highest cost) to account for the potential of greater flight variability.

Please know the CGL staff will continue to monitor changing conditions and make modifications to programs as needed.
