Luther Student Teacher Participates in National Panel
Patrick Carew, class of 2024 and fall 2024 student teacher, participated in the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) Collegiate Advisory Council special virtual panel for student teachers. One of the council’s charges is to provide monthly events to unite pre-service teachers across the country. Jill Wilson is a member of the NAfME Advisory Council.
Iowa Teacher of the Year Visits Luther during Teacher Education Program Induction Ceremony
Tuesday, September 10, 2024, 35 students were inducted into the Teacher Education Program. The same day, Ms. Ann Mincks, Iowa’s 2024 Teacher of the Year, visited campus. She attended classes, spoke with students, and delivered the keynote message for the ceremony. Ms. Mincks’ message and visit in conjunction with the induction ceremony highlighted the mission to prepare competent, compassionate, and inquisitive future educators.
Elliott Johnson and Jeanie Lovell Secure Grant for SmartBoard
Thanks to a successful proposal written by Elliott Johnson, assistant professor of education, and Jeanie Lovell, senior director of foundation relations and strategic initiatives, Luther received a $10,000 grant from the Kinney-Lindstrom Foundation to purchase two new Smartboards for the Education Department. This new technology will be purchased this summer and used for courses as well as an expanded tutoring program for local K-12 students.
