  • Dependable Strengths Workshop

    SSS and the Career Center present a way to find your path through “Dependable Strengths.”

    You can find out how the good experiences in your life connect to college majors and careers by coming to the Strengths Articulation Workshop facilitated by Keley Smith-Keller, Ed.D. director of the Luther Career Center.

    You will learn how to articulate your strengths by examining your life’s good experiences.  You will also learn how to apply your strengths as you consider a college major or career option.

    Cookies and fruit will be provided.

    Learn how to make study abroad a reality for your budget and schedule!

    Representatives from the Center for Global Learning and Financial Aid, along with faculty, will share information about how you can study abroad.  Also, SSS participants who have previously studied abroad will discuss their experiences, insight, tips and suggestions for making it work for you.  Come with questions!

  • Kick Off to Finals Pizza Party

    Come De-Stress with SSS!  

    The SSS mentors are hosting a pizza and board game night to help everyone unwind before finals.  All SSS students are welcome to drop into Hovde Lounge on Friday, December 9, from 5-7 pm.

    Pizza, beverages, door prizes and cake (in honor of Cheryl’s birthday) will be provided.  We’ll have games, but if you have one you think would be fun, please bring it!

    Adam Carroll is coming to campus Thursday, September 22nd to teach Luther students how to achieve financial success during his fun and energetic program, Winning the Money Game! This event is open to ALL Luther students and required of all students eligible for an SSS Grant. Sponsored by SAC Diversity, Student Support Services, and the Financial Aid Office!

  • Magic of Saving

    Student Support Services will present “The Magic of Saving” on Wednesday, November 3 from 6-8 p.m. in Peace Dining Room. Following dinner, students will learn about money management strategies from local Luther alumni and friends. Financial planners, bankers, accountants, and other financial experts will be on hand at various stations to discuss timely topics, including:

    • “Give Me Some Credit” – You have heard about the importance of building and having good credit. But what does that mean and how do you do it?
    • “Deter, Detect, Defend” - The Federal Trade Commission estimates that as many as 10 million Americans (1 in 4 people) have their identities stolen each year. Find out how to avoid becoming a victim of identity theft.
    • “Money Pitfalls” – Find out what college students - specifically Luther students - would do differently if they could, when it comes to money.
    • “Check This Out” – Are you keeping your receipts but don’t know why? Learn how to get organized when it comes to your checking/debit account.
    • “The Dark Side of Debt” – Learn when it’s appropriate to take out loans and why it’s dangerous to use credit cards as a method to borrow money.
    • “How to Become a Millionaire” – Don’t think you can be one? Think again!
