Luther College is hosting a Creative Arts Visit Day for prospective students Friday, Oct. 27. Activities for the day are geared toward prospective students interested in art, dance and theatre by providing an opportunity to explore visual and performing arts at Luther.

Examining a liturgical drama known as the Visitatio sepulchri or “Visit of the sepulcher” that was performed on Easter Sunday in churches and monasteries during the Middle Ages, Melanie Batoff, Luther College assistant professor of music, will deliver a lecture titled “The Past Meets the Present: Strengthening Community through the ‘Visitatio sepulchri’ Liturgical Drama” at 4 pm Sunday, Oct. 22, in the Choir Room of the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music on Luther’s campus.

Luther College President Paula Carlson will present the Luther Distinguished Service Award to eight alumni at the college’s annual Homecoming Alumni Dinner, set for 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, in Peace Dining Room on the Luther campus.

Luther College will celebrate Homecoming 2017 Thursday through Sunday, Oct. 5-8, bringing more than 5,000 friends and alumni back to campus to partake in class reunions, sporting events, musical concerts and more.

Alumnus Robby Scott, class of 2013, will be on campus Monday, Oct. 9, giving two presentations about his postgraduate work.

After spending a year as a Franklin Fellow at the U.S. State Department, Todd Green, Luther College professor of religion, will discuss his experience at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, in Valders Hall of Science Room 206 on Luther’s campus. Victoria Christman of Luther’s Center for Ethics and Public Engagement will moderate the conversation.

A student-curated exhibit, “From Parlor to Countryside: Recent Fine Arts Collection Print Acquisitions,” will open Thursday, Oct. 5, in the Luther College Union Gallery.

Following the life of the “father of modern science” Galileo Galilei, Luther College’s Visual and Performing Arts department presents “The Life of Galileo” Oct. 5-7 in the Jewel Theatre in Luther’s Center for the Arts.

Featuring the college’s premiere touring ensembles, the Luther College Homecoming Concert is at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, in the Center for Faith and Life Main Hall on the Luther campus.

Examining how human rights discourses and institutions have changed gender norms and responses to gender violence in rural Ecuador, Karin Friederic, the Luther College Women and Gender Studies program’s fall 2017 Price Lecturer, will deliver a lecture titled “Women’s Rights, Gender Violence and Body Politics in Coastal Ecuador” at 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 2, in the F.W. Olin Building Room 102 on Luther’s campus.
