Luther College Community Music School

We regret to announce that we will have to extend the closure of the Luther College Community Music School through the spring semester.  We appreciate your support in the past and look forward to making music with you again in 2021!

The Luther College Community Music School exists to...

... nurture students of all ages and levels of experience to expand their musical skills
... provide affordable music education opportunities
... offer teaching experience for future music educators and
... encourage lifelong music making

LCCMS prides itself on three major features:

1. Affordable

LCCMS offers low tuition to make our offerings more available to anyone in the community. In addition, we offer need-based scholarships to assist with the costs of tuition.

2. Accessible

With classroom spaces at the Decorah Lutheran Church, LCCMS classes are conveniently located close to nearby Decorah schools. In addition, we have access to Luther College facilities, such as the Jenson Noble Recital Hall for our LCCMS Student Recital.

3. Educational

LCCMS is designed to provide educational opportunities for all. Not only do members of our community benefit from our offerings, but our LCCMS teachers, who are current Luther College music education students, strengthen their skills with more experience as a teacher.

We are looking forward to an exciting and successful year! Luther College takes pride in being able to offer private lessons and classes to members of the community. Although we consider participation in this program a right of all students, we do expect certain standards of each student enrolled:

  • Responsibility
  • Dependability
  • Dedication

It is our goal to make lesson and class offerings through the Luther College Community Music School valuable and insightful to musicians of all ages and experiences. We hope that all LCCMS students are eager to enroll and participate fully in their lessons and classes.

Student Responsibilities

By enrolling in the Luther College Community Music School, you become an important member of our Luther music community. Your participation and dedication is vital to the success and value of your education with us. Therefore, we ask our LCCMS students to abide by the following:

  • Respect yourself and others.
  • Respect all instruments and LCCMS facilities.
  • Be present and ready to begin at the start of your lesson/class.
  • Be attentive and respectful during your lesson/class.
  • Follow instructions.
  • Come prepared with your materials.
  • If you are unable to attend a lesson or class, communicate directly with your LCCMS teacher. 24 hour notice is required to reschedule a lesson you are unable to attend. Class meetings cannot be rescheduled.

Parent Communication

LCCMS teachers will be given parent contact information for students under the age of 18. Should there be any problems or concerns we will call as soon as possible to discuss the matter.

Tuition for private lessons must be paid in full prior to the first class or lesson of the session. Students may not begin until payment is received. Should weather or sickness cause a lesson to be cancelled, every effort will be made by the teacher to make up the lesson should advanced notice be given. "No shows" will not be rescheduled.

Practice and Attendance (Private instruction)

At home practice is an essential part of a students' musical development. Students are expected to practice at home. Students will set a goal for each practice session with their LCCMS teacher.
