User Services Meeting - 6/23/16

The User Services team meets twice each month. At this month's meeting, we discussed: Archiving Old Tickets, Computers & Classrooms, PaperCut, ADA Compliant applications/web applications, Room 120 SmartBoard, ITS Emergency Plan, Annual Report, Workstations & AD, and Ian’s Farewell Gathering.

ITS Council is the leadership team within Information Technology Services. Topics discussed this week were Iowa Communications Network(ICN) Regional Telecommunications Council 1 (RTC), ADA Application Compliance and Alumni Accounts/Passwords. Multiple Phishing Attacks—Attention Required

The Technology Help Desk and ITS have been notified of several phishing attacks today and over the last week which we now believe to be related. If you have clicked links, filled forms, or followed contact instructions in any of the following emails listed within this post, you must change your Norse Key password immediately. Also, you must email helpdesk@luther.edu in the event further action is required.

Wireless Controller Software Update

On Thursday, June 16, beginning at 5AM, ITS will be upgrading the firmware on our wireless network controllers. The upgrade will cause a short disruption to the wireless network on campus. Network access through wired ethernet jacks, and to all campus servers, will not be affected by the upgrade.

Impact of Power Outage 06.14.16

11:02 am: This morning, power to the campus from Alliant Energy was disrupted, impacting the network and many other systems. While ITS employs safeguards against power failure, we elected to begin shutting down critical systems to prevent data loss. Most systems have been brought back online, but Academic shared drives are still down. If you encounter other services which aren’t working, have an urgent need affected by a downed system, or wish to inquire about a specific system, please notify the Technology Help Desk at (563) 387-1000.

3:30 pm: Academic shared drive was restored.

Phishing: 06.10.16 - Health Center

The Technology Help Desk has been informed that the following phishing email has been sent to several members of the Luther College community. This email is malicious.  

If you clicked either of the links in the email, please change your password immediately at norsekey.luther.edu AND contact the Technology Help Desk in the event further action is required. If you have not responded, simply delete the message. We are taking steps to block the links.

Adobe Software Update

Luther has entered into a campus-wide agreement with Adobe to provide the Adobe CC suite on Luther-owned computers in place of Adobe CS. ITS plans to install the software on the lab/classroom/podium computers this summer and on the faculty/staff computers through the standard computer refresh process. If you need this software sooner than scheduled, or have questions regarding the plans, contact the Technology Help Desk.
