Luther College to host Rock the Commons Oct. 20

Luther College welcomes musical groups Beautiful Mess, Early Eyes and headliner Leftmore to the annual Rock the Commons event at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, in Bentdahl Commons on the Luther campus.

The event is open to the public with no charge for admission. In case of rain, the event will be moved inside to Marty's in the lowest level of Dahl Centennial Union. It is sponsored by KWLC, Luther's radio station.

Kicking off the day of music is Luther College's Beautiful Mess at 2 p.m. Founded in 2006, Beautiful Mess is Luther's all-female, student-led acapella group. With 12 members, the group regularly performs on campus and around Decorah.

Opening for Leftmore is Early Eyes. Based out of Minneapolis, Minnesota, the Indie-pop band was formed in 2016. Described as "foxy, funky and an all-around good time," the band was recognized as one of "The 2017 Best New Bands," after performing at First Avenue, Minneapolis. Their single, "Coffee" was awarded the top music video and was nominated for the 2017 Best New Bands from City Pages, Minneapolis. In addition to their 2016 DIY EP release of "Minutes," they've released follow-up EP "Decorating."

Leftmore will take the stage at 4 p.m. Leftmore member Joe Ziegler will perform a solo/acoustic rock set. An acoustic rock band hailing from Denver, Colorado, Leftmore began touring in 2008. From fall 2009 until winter 2013, Ziegler toured as a solo act until he was reunited with former band member Matthew Shaw. Leftmore's latest CD, "Hotel Candy (24-Hour WAR Challenge III)," was released online in January 2018. The band has released seven CDs and played more than 800 shows and recently completed their next album, slated for release in spring 2019.
