Since 2005, Cohen's musical releases have seen her range from hard-swinging to lilting balladry, from small groups to larger ensembles and back again, exploring many musical styles along the way. "Happy Song," her latest album and third release this year, sees her drawing on diverse musical loves, including everything from Brazilian music to vintage swing.
The new vehicle for her explorations is the Anat Cohen Tentet, a group of ten New York musicians that includes cello, trumpet, piano, guitar, drums and more.
The Jazz Journalists Association has declared Cohen Clarinetist of the Year every year since 2007, and she has also been named the top clarinetist in both the readers and critic's polls in "DownBeat Magazine" for multiple years running. When describing Cohen's presence and impact, Terry Gross of Fresh Air credits Cohen with "bringing the clarinet to the world" and The New York Times hails her a "Master."
