Nov. 2, 2009

Joshua Kortbein, Luther College visiting assistant professor of philosophy, will present a lecture Tuesday, Nov. 17, 6:30 p.m. in Room 262 of Valders Hall of Science.

Kortbein’s lecture, titled “Private Minds, Private Lives: From the Structure of Social Life to the ‘Problem of Other Minds,’” is part of the Luther 2009-10 Philosophy Colloquium Series and is open to the public with no charge for admission.

His lecture, inspired by the work of Wittgenstein, will discuss the “problem of other minds,” or the problem of knowing the thoughts of another person.

Kortbein holds a doctoral degree in philosophy from the University of Minnesota.  His research focuses on the history of philosophy, especially Wittgenstein, and also on the literary and rhetorical form of philosophical writing.
