Wartburg College hosted the 2018 NCAA III Central Regional this afternoon at The Max Championship Cross Country Course. Twenty-nine teams competed on the 6K course in the coldest conditions of the season.
The top-two teams from today's regional competition across the country automatically qualified for the NCAA III National Championships that will be held one week from today, Nov. 17, at Lake Breeze Golf Club, Winneconne, Wis.
Tomorrow afternoon (Sunday, Nov. 11) the NCAA will announce the 16 at-large teams selected from the eight regions for the national finale, plus the 56 individuals (top-7 from each region not on a national qualifying team).
Carleton College won the Central Regional team title posting 64 points. American Rivers Conference champions Nebraska Wesleyan University was second with 128. Wartburg College was third with 133, followed by the University of St. Thomas with 164, Gustavus Adolphus College with 234 and Luther was seventh with 248.
Individually, freshman Amelia Morrow earned all-region honors (top-35) placing 16th from the field of 207 runners that completed the course. Morrow posted a time of 22:41.6.
Rounding out the Norse five and where they placed included junior Vera Lindhorst (53rd - 23:33.9), sophomore Amelia Hornseth (55th - 23:36.5), senior Anna Restemayer (61st - 23:41.7) and freshman Heather Hostager (63rd - 23:43.5).
Freshman Katie Fetting (79th - 24:01) and junior Kat Hoffman (81st - 24:03) completed the top seven.
