The women's tennis team traveled to the Owatonna Tennis Center (MN) for their opening date of the spring schedule. The Norse faced the Oles of St. Olaf College and were defeated 6-3.
Luther fell behind 2-1 following doubles with Ellie Hemker and Stephanie Almquist producing the lone victory at No. 3 (8-6).
In singles, two of the six matches were decided in three-sets and two were decided in tie-breakers. Britta Pressler posted a (1-6, 6-3, 10-8) victory over Kellis Brandt at No. 2. Shelby Cook won in straight sets (7-5, 6-2) over Emily Otteson.
Devon Bourget at No. 1 (7-6 (7-5), 6-4) and Ellie Hemker at No. 5 (7-6 (7-3), 6-1) both lost in tiebreakers.
Kelsey Kruse at No. 6, lost in three sets to Teresa Fawcett (4-6, 6-4, 10-6)
The loss gives Luther an overall record of 8-4. St. Olaf improved to 2-0.
Luther returns to action on March 2 when it will face St. Scholastica at Lifetime Fitness, Bloomington, Minn. Start time is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
