Simpson defeated Luther 90-81 tonight at the Cowles Fieldhouse. The Storm held a 46-35 advantage at halftime. The Norse started the second half with a 20-8 run and took their only lead of the game (55-54) with 15:06 left in the game. Simpson responded with a 21-5 run in the next five minutes that proved to be the difference in the ballgame.
Luther had four players score double digits led by Aaron Blumberg who produced a career high 20 points. Blumberg was 8-of-13 from the field that included a 4-of-8 performance from behind the three-point line. Ray Whitlock came in off the bench and finished with 13, while both Gage Thompson and Spencer Sturges tallied 10.
The Storm had five players produce double figures. Conor Riordan led all scorers with 21 points. Tyler Stumbo was next with 21 off the bench. Kyle Wagner, Ben Rajewski and Taylor Filbert all finished with 14.
The loss was the third in a row for the Norse who are now 1-11 in the A-R-C, 7-13 overall. Simpson moved into fifth place in the league standings with a mark of 7-6, 13-8 overall.
Wednesday night, Luther returns home and hosts Wartburg College (8-4, 14-7). Tip-off is slated for 8:00 p.m.
