Luther 3, UC-Santa Cruz 1
Luther won its second match in a row defeating UC-Santa Cruz this afternoon at the St. Catherine University Tournament. The Norse won 3-1 posting set victories of 25-21, 25-18 in sets one and two and 25-22 in set four. UC-Santa Cruz won set three 25-23.
Karissa Kime recorded a career high 19 kills for a four-set match to lead the Norse attack. Kime tallied an attack percentage of .298. Emma Veum also posted double-digit kill totals with 14. Anna Larson, who needed four kills to post her 1,000th career kill, was credited with eight.
Sam Sixta dished out 44 assists, five shy of her career best for a four-set match. Sixta also recorded a double-double as she was credited with 10 digs. Natalie Cote led the team in this category with 14, while Emily Rinken had 13. Katie Shabatura led the defensive effort at the net as she was credited with one block solo and four block assists.
The win gives Luther an overall record of 11-13. Santa Cruz fell to 6-16.
The Norse continue play tomorrow facing host St. Kate's at 11:00 a.m. and No. 11 Gustavus Adolphus at 3:00 p.m.

No. 11 Gustavus Adolphus 3, Luther 0
No. 11 Gustavus Adolphus College swept Luther 3-0 in today's first match of the St. Catherine University Tournament. The Gusties posted set victories of 25-17, 25-19 and 25-18.
Gustavus was led by the duo of Lauren Hanson and Kate Holtan who tallied 11 and 10 kills respectively. Holtan also recorded a double-double finishing with a game high 15 digs.
Karissa Kime and Anna Larson led the Norse attack. Kime was credited with eight kills, while Larson had seven. Emma Veum was one behind with six kills.
Sam Sixta also had a double-double in this match, producing 12 assists and 12 digs.
The loss gives Luther an overall record of 11-14. Gustavus improved to 21-2.
Luther 3, St. Catherine University 1
Luther wrapped up its trip to St. Paul, Minn., with a 3-1 victory over St. Catherine University. The Norse dropped set one 25-19 and then rebounded with three straight wins of 25-18, 25-13 and 25-19. The win gave Luther a record of 2-1 at the St. Kate's Tournament.
Karissa Kime set a four-match career high with 24 kills. Kime tallied an attack percentage of .426. Yesterday, Kime had established a new four-match kill total of 19, during Luther's 3-1 victory over UC-Santa Cruz.
Emma Veum also recorded double-digits with 11 kills. Anna Larson fell one shy of this mark with nine.
Sam Sixta had her third double-double of the weekend, as she dished out 43 assists and she was also credited with 12 digs. Larson led the team in digs with 17. Natalie Cote was one shy of Larson with 16. Katie Shabatura led the team at the net recording five block assists.
The win gives Luther an overall record of 12-14, while St. Kate's fell to 11-10.
Luther returns to American Rives Conference play Oct. 19 and Oct. 20. The Norse will travel to Nebraska Wesleyan on the 19th and Buena Vista University on the 20th.
