Sept. 7, 2018 - Day One
Luther 3, Ripon 1
Luther leveled its overall record to 3-3 after defeating Ripon College 3-1 in today's first of two matches at the ACM Tournament. Lawrence University, Appleton, Wis., is hosting the two-day tournament.
The Norse posted an attack percentage of .228 while holding the Red Hawks to .047. The Norse dominated at the net recording 13 blocks. Katie Shabatura led this defensive effort with seven block assists.
Offensively, the trio of Emma Veum, Karissa Kime and Shabatura all posted double digit kill totals. Veum tallied a match high 15, while Kime and Shabatura were credited with 11 and 10 respectively.
Sam Sixta dished out 28 assists and Natalie Cote led the team with 16 digs. Anna Larson and Emily Rinken also tallied double digit dig totals with 10 each.
Luther will wrap up today's action with a match against Beloit College at 4:00 p.m.
Luther 3, Beloit 0
Luther swept Beliot College 3-0 in today's second match of the ACM Tournament . The Norse tallied an attack percentage of .310, while holding the Buccaneers to .054. Set scores were 25-13, 25-13 and 25-16. Luther has now defeated Beloit five matches in a row.
Emma Veum and Karissa Kime led the attack with 12 kills each. Veum had an attack percentage of .550. while Kime's was .500. Anna Larson was next with eight kills.
Sam Sixta and Grace Meyers combined for 34 of Luther's 38 assists. Sixta was credited with 20 and Meyers tallied 14.
Emily Rinken led the team with 17 digs, while Veum won most of the battles at the net recording 4 block assists.
The win gives Luther an overall record of 4-3. Beloit fell to 2-4.
Luther has two matches tomorrow. The Norse will face Lake Forest at 10:00 a.m. and Lawrence University at 2:00 p.m.
Sept. 8, 2018 - Day Two
Luther 3, Lake Forest 1
Luther won its third consecutive match, defeating Lake Forest College 3-1 in today's first of two matches at the ACM Tournament. The Norse won the first two sets 25-23, 25-15, dropped set three 21-15, and secured the win with a 25-16 victory in set four.
Emma Veum continued to post big attack percentage numbers. Veum tallied a match high 16 kills thanks to an attack percentage of .500. Karissa Kime also reached double digits with 12 kills. Anna Larson and Katie Shabatura were next with seven kills each.
Emily Rinken led the squad with 23 digs, while Sam Sixta and Grace Meyers led the team in assists with 26 and 10 respectively.
The Norse will wrap up their trip to Appleton, Wis. with a match against host Lawrence University at 2:00 p.m.
Luther 3, Lawrence University 0
Luther made it a clean sweep at the ACM Tournament hosted by Lawrence University. In the fourth and final match of the two-day tournament, Luther defeated host Lawrence 3-0. Set scores were 25-17, 25-22 and 25-13. The four wins this weekend gives Luther an overall record of 6-3.
Karissa Kime and Emma Veum once again led the Norse attack. Both had 10 kills. Veum posted an attack percentage of .571, while Kime's was .381. Anna Larson was next with eight kills, followed by Katie Shabatura with five.
Larson led the team with 10 digs, while Veum was credited with six block assists. Sam Sixta dished out 20 assists and Grace Meyers was credited with 12.
Luther also had nine ace serves. Sixta and Natalie Cote led the team in this category with three each.
Luther begins American Rivers Conference play next week. The Norse will travel to Waverly, Iowa to take on the Knights of Wartburg College, Wednesday, Sept. 12. Start time is slated for 7:30 p.m.
