Luther claimed its first America Conference Rivers victory this afternoon in Carlson Stadium. The Norse defeated the Beavers of Buena Vista University 41-26. The win was also the first career victory for Head Coach Caleb Padilla.
Trailing 14-7 at halftime, the Norse outscored the Beavers 34-12 in the second half that included a 22-point fourth quarter.
Ian Kuykendall led an offensive attack that produced 585 yards of total offense. Kuykendall rushed for a single game career high of 219 yards on 18 carries and one touchdowns, and threw for 210 yards and two touchdowns, for a total of 429 yards of total offense.
Tre Jensen also had a career afternoon. Jensen rushed for 79 yards on 10 carries and reached the end zone on runs of 28 and 12 yards.
Also scoring touchdowns this afternoon included Yassine Ouazzani, Trevor Joiner and Justin Montgomery. Ouazanni scored Luther's first touchdown of the afternoon, a two-yard plunge late in the second quarter. Joiner scored on an 18-yard strike from Kuykendall in the third and Montgomery caught an eight-yard pass in the fourth. Montgomery led the receiving corp with six receptions for 79 yards.
Defensively, the Norse sacked BVU quarterback Cole Miller four times. Devon Anderson and Jarrett Villastrigo were both credited with one sack, while Patrick Beatty, Michael Noll, Dakota Wright and Tyler Sefried were all credited with half a sack.
Eythan Blair led all tacklers with 14. Also recording double-digit tackle totals was Beatty with 11 and Dante Joseph with 10. Noll and Wright were next with six each.
The win gives Luther an A-R-C record of 1-3, 1-5 overall. Buena Vista fell to 0-5 in league play, 1-6 overall.
Next week, Luther will make its first trip to Nebraska Wesleyan University. Kick-off will take place in Lincoln, Neb. at 1:00 p.m.
