Luther sits on top of the Iowa Conference standings after sweeping Nebraska Wesleyan University this afternoon in Decorah. The Norse defeated the Prairie Wolves 4-2 and 8-3.
In game one, with the scored tied 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh, Natalie Stockman hit a two-run walk off home run with one out, over the left field fence. Stockman finished the game going 3-for-4. Anna Strien also had multiple hits going 2-for-4 with an RBI. Page Timmerman tied the game with a pinch hit double in the the sixth.
Samantha Bratland (15-2) went the distance in the circle. Bratland allowed two runs on four hits, walked one and struck out three.
In the nightcap, the Norse bats produced 10 hits, with five coming in the five-run third inning. Ashley Burrows, Stockman and Bailey Victoria were all 2-for-4. Stockman and Blake Banowetz both drove in two runs, while Strien, Victoria and Elsa Skeie all drove in one. Skeie's RBI was a solo blasts in the fifth, her first career home run.
Courtney Cooper (10-1) was credited with the win. After giving up two runs in the first, Cooper settled down and at one point retired 11 in a row. She spread five hits, walked two and struck out three.
The two wins gives No. 9 Luther a league record of 5-1, 27-3 overall. The Prairie Wolves fell to 5-7 in the IIAC, 18-16 overall.
Luther returns to action on Tuesday, April 24 when it will host Loras College at 2:00 p.m.
