Luther rolled to a 14-4 win over Northland College (WI) in seven innings in today's first game at Independence High School (IA).
Leading the Jacks 5-2 entering the bottom of the fourth, the Norse produced eight runs on six hits and blew this game wide open. The Jacks scored two in the top of sixth that made the score 13-4. The Norse added one run in the bottom of the frame and held the Jacks scoreless in the top of the seventh that ended the game by 10-run rule.
Tyler Boesel (2-0) picked up the win on the mound. Boesel threw five innings, allowed two runs on five hits, walked two and struck out three.
The Norse had 15 hits. Coe Jensen and Trent Athmann were both 3-for-5 driving in two runs and three runs respectively. Tommy Gleason and Jared Swanson went 2-for-4 with one RBI. Jake Vogt drove in two runs, while Mitch Bruggers, Kelby Johnson and Daniel Opdahl were credited with one RBI each.
The win was the sixth in a row for the Norse who are now 8-1 overall.
