Lecture: The Urgency of Now and the Role of White People In Racial Justice Work

  • Date: Sunday, March 4, 2018
  • Time: 6:30 pm – 7:50 pm
  • Location: Valders 206

Without question, we are living a fraught time with respect to social justice issues and it can be difficult to know one’s place in all of it and how to be most effective in the steps we take. This talk focuses on the current racial climate and offers suggestions on how White people can be more authentically engaged in racial justice work without falling into the traps of guilt and shame. Speaking from her own process of coming into racial justice work, Dr. Hackman will share information, insights, examples and personal stories on how White people can work for racial justice in any context and on any level. With over 25 years of teaching and training on this content, Dr. Hackman’s experience in this work will provide students, staff and faculty alike with valuable insights and inspiration to continue our campus journey toward racial justice.
