  • Date: Sunday, October 8, 2017
  • Time: 10:00 pm
  • Location: Center for the Arts, Kristin Wigley-Fleming Fine Arts Gallery

Featuring paintings and 3-D objects created by Luther College Alumnus Robby Scott, the exhibit "Just Passing Through" will be on display Sept. 1-Oct. 8 in the Kristin Wigley-Fleming Fine Arts Gallery in the Center for the Arts on the Luther campus.

The gallery is open to the public with no charge for admission.

Using trauma and personal experience, Scott's works are the catalysts for remembered emotional experience. Using those fragmented moments, Scott aims to create a bridge between the physical and psychological experience. By working with dark paint and sculptures made from black resin, Scott wants viewers to slow down and become lost in the moment.

Scott's vision is for his work to be felt and engage the viewer through a visceral moment. He aims to create beauty as a form of escape, a way to remove pain and sadness. His work often reflects his traumatic childhood and the inspirations he found later in life.

Scott earned a Bachelor of Arts from Luther in 2013. He went on to get his Master of Arts from the University of Iowa in 2016 and is working on his Master of Fine Arts from there as well. He received the 2016 Mildred Pelzer Fellowship Award from the University of Iowa and was named Best in Show from ArtHaus in Decorah in 2013. Scott has had several exhibitions, including a solo show at ArtHaus in 2014, as a part of the ArtHaus Young Emerging Artist Competition from 2011 to 2013 and a solo show while a student at Luther.
