The Luther women's tennis team played its first official match of the 2020 campaign this afternoon in Dubuuqe, Iowa. Today's match also marked the first time the Norse had faced an opponent on the tennis courts since March 8, 2020.
On August 10, the Presidents Council of the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C), passed a resolution that fall competition in women’s and men’s cross country, women’s golf, and women’s tennis would take place but only against conference opponents. As a result of this resolution, the A-R-C is the only Division III conference in the nation playing fall sports.
Luther opened the conference schedule facing Loras College. The Norse won the match 7-2. Loras posted its wins at No. 2 doubles and No. 6 singles.
In doubles, Devon Bourget and Shelby Cook won at No. 1 (8-1), while Anna Spencer and Stephanie Almquist won at No. 3 (8-6).
In singles, straight set victories were posted by Cook at No. 2, Natalia Smith at No. 4 and Almquist at No. 5.
Bourget and Sofia Sackett battled to three-set victories. Bourget defeated Audrey Hinz at No. 1 (1-6, 6-1, 6-0) . Sackett posted a (6-2, 3-6, 10-7) win over Isabel Schwabe at No. 3.
