Jazz Band and Jazz Orchestra to perform Family Weekend concert on Sept. 22

DECORAH, Iowa–Luther College's music department invites the Decorah Community to an evening of jazz music. The concert, featuring Luther's Jazz Band and Jazz Orchestra will be held in Marty's located on the lower level of Luther's Dahl Centennial Union at 8:45 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22. The performance is open to the public with no charge for admission.

The Luther College Jazz Band, conducted by Jon Ailabouni, Luther adjunct faculty in music, has performed a plethora of jazz and swing music across the college campus. An esteemed jazz musician himself, Ailabouni exhibits a vast knowledge of laying a musical foundation for contemporary music. His goal is to strengthen each participant's skills through both standard and modern compositions.

Juan Tony Guzman leads Luther's Jazz Orchestra, incorporating iconic band leaders such as Duke Ellington and Count Basie into the ensemble's repertoire. Jazz Orchestra demonstrates a diverse set of music: ranging from Latin American sambas to legendary big band works. The ensemble will tour the Midwest during April 2019.
