For the second time in the same day Luther secured a 5-4 victory. Earlier this afternoon the Norse defeated Carthage College in Elkhorn, Wis., jumped in the van and drove to Rockford, Ill. and finished the day around 10:30 p.m. with a victory over Wheaton College.
Luther had to come-from-behind to secure the win as Wheaton jumped out to a 2-1 advantage following doubles. The Norse No. 1 duo of Nate Parsons and Anders Jensen secured the lone win by a final of (8-5).
The Norse won four of six singles matches. Nate Parsons was the first to finish at No. 4 defeating Josh Cheng in straight sets (6-2, 6-0). Wheaton retook the match lead securing a straight set victory at No. 1. The next two matches were won by Brook Norwood at No. 6 (6-0, 6-4) and Brian Murman at No. 5 (6-3, 7-5). Wheaton tied the match at 4-4 when Dave Paulsen defeated Jensen at No. 2 (2-6, 6-4, 6-3). While all of this was taking place, Cole Schneider was in the middle of a three-set match at No. 3, that he won (6-4, 6-7, 7-6) to secure the victory.
The win was the fifth straight victory and improved Luther's overall record to 7-1. The Norse will return to action during its annual spring trip to Orlando, Florida March 23-28. Luther will face Calvin College in the 23rd, Mount St. Mary (NY) on the 25th and Loyola New Orleans on the 28th.
