  • Date: Monday, August 18, 2014
  • Time: 9:00 am – 4:00 pm
  • Location: Loyalty Hall, Conference Room 100

As a result of the Paideia departmental review and faculty vote, which shifted Paideia 111 and 112 to courses that incorporate works from more disciplines, the Paideia Director has solicited recommendations for potential Paideia 111 and 112 works. In order to sort through these recommendations, we would like to invite faculty currently teaching Paideia 111 and 112 OR those interested in teaching these courses to participate in a faculty workshop focused on reading some of the proposed works. Faculty in the workshop will work in pairs. Each team will in advance of the workshop will select--in consultation with the Paideia Director--two of the titles on the list. After reading the works they have selected, members of the team will prepare a summary of the work, an analysis of the enduring questions the work might relate to, and an evaluation of the appropriateness of the text for first-year students in an introductory course. These materials will be shared for the other participants to read. The entire group will then meet for two days to discuss all of the books and responses.

Participants will receive a $100 stipend for participation in this two-day workshop.

Last year this was lots of fun. I am sure it will be again. Come and join us.
