Luther swept the Iowa Conference series against Simpson College defeating the Storm 10-0 in seven innings on a very chilly afternoon here in Decorah.
The Norse offense exploded for 11 hits and put crooked numbers on the score board in the second, fourth and fifth innings. The Norse scored six of their 10 runs with two outs.
Jake Halverson drove in four runs going 2-for-2 in the ninth slot of the order. Mitch Bruggers and Cole Jensen also had multiple hit efforts. Bruggers was 2-for-4 and Jensen went 3-for-3. Jake Vogt hit his second home run of the year, a two-tun blast to left field in the fifth.
Despite all of the offense, the story of the game was the pitching by Tyler Boesel. Boesel threw a one-hit gem, facing 22 batters and striking out nine. Following Simpson's only hit of the game, an infield grounder toward third in the first, Boesel proceeded to retire 19 in a row en route to the victory. Boesel is now 4-1 and lowered his ERA to 1.44.
The victory gives Luther an Iowa Conference record of 4-2, 14-4 overall. Simpson fell to 1-5 in league play, 2-15 overall.
Luther is scheduled to travel to Central College on Tuesday, April 3 for a double header (2x9) that will begin at 1:00 p.m.
