Playing for the first time outside, No. 9 Luther swept Greenville University 14-2 (5) and 8-2 this afternoon in Greenville, Ill. These were the first two of four games for the Norse who are playing in the Orange and Black Invitational hosted by Greenville. The two wins gives Luther an overall record of 7-1.
In game one, Luther pounded out 16 hits that included four doubles and a solo home run by Blake Banowetz in the top of the second inning. Ashley Burrows, Anna Strien, Annie See, Natalie Stockman and Sierra Freeland all drove in two runs.
Samantha Bratland improved to 3-1 in the circle. Bratland allowed one run on five hits, walked two and struck out five of the 22 batters she faced.
With the score tied 1-1 after three, Luther exploded for four runs in the bottom of the third, added two in the fourth and one in the six en route to an 8-2 victory. Annie See led the offensive attack driving in three runs while going 3-for-4 at the plate. Strien also drove in two runs increasing her season total to a team best 13 rbi.
Courtney Cooper improved to 4-0. Cooper allowed two runs on nine hits, walked five and struck out two in six innings of work. Natalie Stockman retired all three batters she faced in the top of the seventh.
Luther will wrap up its trip to Greenville with a double header against UW-Stevens Point tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for 10:00 a.m.
