Luther Ringers Handbell Ensemble will present a spring concert on Sunday, May 2 at 7:30 p.m. The concert includes a Fanfare on Beethoven's Ode to Joy, arrangements of familiar hymn tunes How Can I Keep from Singing, It Is Well, and Angels Watching Over Me, a composition by Luther alumnus Lee Afdahl '71 titled Joy and Celebration, and Song of Triumph by Arnold Sherman. The ringers will be joined by Mae Cody on harp and Belle Searcy on violin. This event will be livestreamed and can be viewed at https://portal.stretchinternet.com/luthermusic/.
Luther Ringers is an auditioned ensemble with students drawn from all classes and all majors and conducted by Gregory Peterson. The ensemble rings six octaves of Schulmerich Handbells and six octaves of Malmark Handchimes. In addition, Luther owns a set of Whitechapel English Handbells, a set of Petit & Fritsen "Flemish" style handbells, a set of Schulmerich silver melody bells, a Schulmerich bell tree and additional chimes and rhythm instruments used in handbell music. In addition to chapel and community performances, the Luther Ringers prepare their own concert in the spring semester and take part in the annual Christmas at Luther concerts each December.
