Two regionally ranked teams collided in Winona, Minn., late tonight. Luther, ranked No. 14 in the Central Region, defeated No. 15 UW-Eau Claire 7-2.
The Norse held a 2-1 advantage after doubles play and proceeded to win five of six singles matches that included three that were decided in a third set.
No. 2 doubles team Brian Murman and Cole Schneider posted an (8-6) victory, while Ryan Ortega and Jake Smith won at No. 3 (8-5).
In singles, Grant Morton at No. 1 (6-2, 2-6, 10-4), Nate Parsons at No. 4 (1-6, 6-2, 10-7) and Brian Murman at No. 5 (5-7, 6-3, 10-4) all won in three sets. Brook Norwood at No. 6 (7-5, 7-5) and Schneider at No. 2 (6-3, 7-6(7-5)) won in straight sets.
The win gives Luther an overall record of 12-2. UW-Eau Claire fell to 13-3.
Luther has a full day of action tomorrow, April 7. The Norse open Iowa Conference play against the Spartans of the University of Dubuque in the Regents Center at 10:00 a.m. Following this match, they will drive to Rochester, Minn., and face regionally ranked No. 9 Carleton College at 6:00 p.m.
