After combining for just seven hits yesterday against Loras, the Norse bats exploded for 24 hits that produced a total of 21 runs, as the Norse rolled to victories of 8-0 (5) and 13-0 (5) over the Knights at Lynes Field.
The two wins moves Luther to the top of the Iowa Conference standings with a record of 8-2, 30-4 overall. The Norse have now won 30 or more games for 12 consecutive years dating back to 2007.
With the score tied at 0-0 after four innings, the Norse scored eight runs on nine hits in the top of the fifth of game one. Bailey Victoria, Anna Strien, Addy Pender and Blake Banowetz all had two hits. Peder was credited with two RBI, while Strien, Natalie Stockman, Banowetz and Bailey Hocker were all credited with one. Strien's RBI gives her 160 for her career and she is now tied with Lauran Snyder for the school record in this category.
Samantha Bratland faced just 17 batters, struck out six and allowed one hit. Bratland is now 17-2 with a 1.69 ERA.
In the nightcap, the Norse scored four runs in the first, fourth and fifth innings and put a single run on the scoreboard in the third en route to the victory. Natalie Stockman and Addy Pender led the offensive attack with three and four RBI respectively. Pender hit a three-run home run in the fifth. It was her second home run in as many days and third of the year. Ashley Burrows, Megan Bonnett and Annie See joined Stockman and Pender producing multiple hits.
Courtney Cooper spread three hits over five innings, walked one and struck out four. Cooper is now 11-2 with an ERA of 1.83.
Luther returns to action this Saturday, April 28 when it will travel to Simpson College. This double header is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
